Bristol Golf Breaks
In October 2010 one of the most exciting and spectacular sporting events in the world, took place just 30 minutes from the city of Bristol at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales. With excellent road, air and rail links this vibrant city at the heart of the West country is the hub of a recently formed organisation – Bristol Golf Breaks - a joint initiative between some of the best golf courses in this part of the country that offers the travelling golfer an opportunity to play an array of courses whilst enjoying the best that the city of Bristol has to offer in terms of food, socialising, shopping and great heritage.
The Courses
Just to give you a flavour of what is on offer on the golfing front ‘Bristol Golf Breaks.com’ is able to offer a true cross-section of golf facilities, ranging from traditional links golf at the Alistair McKenzie designed Weston-super-Mare, a must for the traditionalists and those who favour the sea breezes and sand-dunes.
Heading back towards the south west of the city Clevedon and Tall Pines are not to be missed both offering spectacular views from a medley of holes. Standing on the ‘Castle’ hole at Clevedon envisioning your tee shot sailing out to sea is a highlight as is the glorious drive of the 14th at Tall Pines.
Knowle, Henbury, Filton and Shirehampton are four glorious gems set in the heart of the city, all of which meander through mature wooded parkland and provide wonderful serenity that is only interrupted by bird-song.
With just three miles separating them The Kendleshire and Chipping Sodbury combined, offer a formidable challenge on the north of the city. The island hole at The Kendleshire and the backdrop of the Cotswolds at the 15th at Chipping Sodbury will create a lasting memory for every golfer.
Lansdown Golf Club situated on the Bath side of the city not only provides top quality golf but on certain Summer evenings the added bonus of a trip to the neighbouring Lansdown Horse Races is an option worth exploring. Journeying back in to the city pay a visit to Saltford and enjoy a heart stopping moment as your tee shot on the par three 17th descends into the depths of the valley green.
The Park resort and Thornbury Golf centre, albeit not part of the ‘Bristol Golf Breaks.com’ represent excellent alternative options for a great golfing experience.
