Access to Bristol

Bristol is a fantastic city and an excellent gateway to South West England. It also offers a perfect base for exploring the wider region. The city is only 90 minutes from London and just 20 minutes from Bath. The Somerset Coast and Cotswold countryside are on Bristol’s doorstep. Check out our travelling around Bristol and maps pages for post-arrival information.

Bristol is served by excellent transport links:

Rail – Bristol is served by two mainline stations, Bristol Temple Meads (City Centre) and Bristol Parkway (North Bristol). There are also a number of smaller urban stations, handy for getting around the city. Trains run approximately twice an hour from London Paddington and take around 90 minutes. GWR have put together a leaflet of ideas for a day trip from London Paddington in EnglishGermanFrenchItalian and Chinese.

Road – Bristol is located adjacent to the M4 and M5 motorways. The M32 (from M4) and A4 (from M5) take you straight into the city centre area. Coach parking information is available here. Local coach operators can be found here.

Most hotels offer either on-site parking or nearby reduced price facilities for cars. Day visitors are encouraged to use the Park & Ride facilities.

Air – For more information on Bristol Airport, view our Bristol Airport page
