Local produce
Guilbert's have been hand-making chocolates in Bristol since 1910, now re-located to 16 Small Street. You can choose gift boxes of chocolates or choose your own delicious treats from a wonderful selection in their new shop. You can also buy their beautifully boxed chocolates at the Bristol Tourist Information Centre.
Like Bristol itself, Bristol Beer Factory seamlessly blends the modern and historical. Tried and trusted styles of beer with modern interpretations, brewed in a hundred year old brewery building that harks back to an industrial age gone by, drunk in the modern surroundings of Bristol’s bars and pubs. Look out for Bristoltoe – a full bodied festive brew spiced with coriander and ginger.
To experience some very local food out and about, The Lido Restaurant has a menu that changes daily, with head chef Freddy Bird taking inspiration from Southern Europe and the Middle East, some of which is locally grown in the Lido’s own Kitchen Garden. The garden also supplies produce to the Glassboat Restaurant and Spyglass.
If you fancy just grabbing ingredients yourself, the central Bristol Farmer’s Market (every Wednesday, Corn Street) offers a wealth of local produce, as does the Slow Food Market which takes place on the first Sunday of the month. While you can grab fresh fruit, veggies, bread, fish and meat, don’t forget there are also some fabulous cakes, pies and other yummy stuff which can keep you going until you get around to your own gastro creations.
