Once the gracious home of the Smyth family, Ashton Court Estate is now an historic park near the centre of Bristol. It covers 850 acres of woods and grasslands, designed by Humphry Repton.
Discover the magnificent old oak trees, see the deer graze in an estate which first became a deer park over six hundred years ago.
On the estate's higher ground there are two 18 hole pitch and putt golf courses, with stunning veiws across the city. Orienteering and mountain biking are catered for with special trails and there is plenty of open space for family games and picnics. There is also a minature railway which is open at selected weekends throughout the year.
Look out for major annual events such as the Discovery Channel International Balloon Fiesta in August and Bristol International Festival of Kites and Air Creations in September.
The visitor centre in the stable block of the mansion provides information on the history of the Estate, a multi media visitor guide (visual and audio), trail maps and details of activities and events.
2 miles from the city centre to the west, off the A369 to Portishead. Entrances at Bower Ashton, Long Ashton and Leigh Woods.
