Harbourside > Events on Harbourside > Live Art and Dance at the Arnolfini
Arnolfini has an exceptional programme of live art and dance this autumn. Combining as ever an unusual and heady mix of contemporary performance in all its guises and exploring the full range of audience experiences and engagements with the live event.
Jean Abreu gets the programme off to a fine start on 11 October performing the Double Bill of Dialogo and Aequus. Dialogo is an intimate dance duet between dancer Jean Abreu and musician Anselmo Netto. Aequus, unites an international cast in explosive movement and raw physicality.
Beautifully Twisted live art weekender (24-26 October) brings together artists who use performance and film to explore dark landscapes of sexuality and desire. Bristol based artist Folake Shoga premieres her new performance The Long Dark Path, exploring the image of the wicked stepmother. In Black and white and red all over the inimitable Marcia Farquhar considers the magical meaning of glamour and iconography of good girl/bad girl fashion. Annette Foster’s one-on one performance Destiny delves into the history of hysteria, sexuality and intimate reactions, whilst Francesca Steele creates fragile moments and measured encounters, engaging the individual audience members’ senses. There will also be a screening of Monika Tichacek’s installation The Shadowers, a huge hit at Arnolfini’s 2006 Inbetween Time festival.
The weekend ends with writer and performer Traci Kelly leading a walk and discussion with the artists and audience into the twilight of Leigh Woods, Bristol, inviting participants to share their stories and experiences.
During much of October Sarah Cunliffe’s dance installation Laura, will be showing in the Dark Studio, inspired by the classic film Brief Encounter, the movements of the dancers drawing on the gestures and physical tics of the film’s characters.
The season continues with Reckless Sleepers marking 20 years of cutting edge performance with The Pilots on 31 October & I November and concludes with Chicago based Cupola Bobber who bring their homespun engineering and bumbling wit to Arnolfini performing The Man who Pictured Space from his Apartment.
