Tourism officials in Bristol are excited to welcome a new service between Zurich and Bristol from Helvetic Airways. The added service will open new tourism opportunities for Bristol, with the aim of increasing Swiss visitor numbers. The service will be available from 5 December 2011.

Flights linking the South West of England with Zurich will operate three times a week. Tickets can be purchased via www.helvetic.com and went on sale from 3 November 2011 with return fares from £145.00.
For Swiss leisure visitors, Bristol Airport provides an ideal gateway to the South West countryside made popular in the German-language television adaptation of Rosamunde Pilcher’s novels set in the region. Bristol itself also offers excellent hotels, award-winning restaurants, museums & galleries, world-class shopping, golf, a vibrant nightlife, and value for money.

But what’s more surprising about Bristol is how green and open it is, with its many parks and gardens, food markets and easy access to the surrounding countryside. Bristol, as the South West's largest city, is a vital business hub for Swiss business visitors as well.

Bruno Jans, Chief Executive Officer of Helvetic Airways, said:
“With flights to Bristol we are developing our service in an economically strong region of the British Isles, providing business travellers with a fast link to Zurich. For Swiss tourists, Bristol is an ideal starting point for leisure trips.”
Robert Sinclair, Chief Executive Officer at Bristol Airport, said:
“Zurich is a key business destination, and this direct flight means that the South West is once again connected to this globally important financial centre. It also enables the region to market its attractions to Swiss tourists, for whom the UK currently represents great value for money.”
Helvetic Airways becomes the 12th scheduled airline operating from Bristol Airport. Flights will be operated by a Fokker 100.
Besides comfortable seating with its generous seat pitch of 33 inch, the business traveller at Helvetic Airways can also benefit from the following advantages:

The flight launches just in time for the busy Christmas shopping season and Bristol has an array of Christmas activity lined up. Bristol will welcome a seasonal sprinkling of Christmas fairy dust with the announcement of The Bristol Hippodrome’s Christmas panto production of Peter Pan starring David Hasselhoff, along with a flurry of festive fun called ‘Christmas in the City’.

A short walk from The Bristol Hippodrome, Bristol’s city centre shopping area is gearing up for a Peter Pan-themed Santa’s Grotto at The Galleries shopping centre. Nearby at Cabot Circus, enhanced light displays will transform the adjacent shops, along with a Christmas skating rink and a special appearance by David Hasselhoff on 1st December.
Bristol will officially unveil its display of spectacular Christmas in the City cheer on Friday 11th November with the city’s Christmas lights switch-on at Cabot Circus which will welcome a breathtaking fire-themed show. Also in the city centre shopping area, visit traditional Christmas markets, a beautifully lit Christmas tree, and other colourful Christmas activities—all resulting in more festive sparkle than ever before for the South West's shopping capital.
