Tourism businesses across the Bristol area are celebrating today following the 2011 Bristol Tourism and Hospitality Awards held at the Bristol Marriott City Centre on 2 June, hosted by Jack FM’s Ian Downs.

Welcoming guests representing the whole of the tourism industry, including the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, the awards event celebrated both the achievements of individuals working within the tourism industry and business excellence across the tourism sector.

“The competition was extremely tough this year,” commented Kathryn Davis of Destination Bristol.  “Over 200 nominations were received and the standard of entry was exceptional. Bristol should be proud of the outstanding quality of its tourism offer.”

Winners included Clifton Kitchen, At-Bristol, The Bristol Hotel, Bristol Marriott City Centre Hotel, Bristol Festival of Nature and Harptree Court, and the special award for Outstanding Contribution to the Tourism and Hospitality Industry was presented by John Hallett of Destination Bristol to Brunel’s ss Great Britain in recognition of their 40th anniversary campaign.

As well as celebrating achievement, the awards raised money for St Peters Hospice with local boxing legend Glen Catley making a special appearance.

The event was organised by Destination Bristol, Sounds Commercial and representatives from the tourism industry, demonstrating the strong partnerships and the collective will for competitors to work together for the benefit for the whole of the city and its tourism and hospitality industry.
