Bristol is an amazing place to spend your August Bank Holiday! Whether you want to take a walk on the wild side, spend time with the family, or if you crave a little culture, Bristol has 10 top activites you'll be talking about for weeks. 

1. Bristol Zoo's Wow! Gorillas Trail

In the year that Bristol Zoo Gardens celebrates its 175th anniversary, Wow! Gorillas brings a world class mass public art event to the streets and parks of Bristol this summer. Until 7th September, pick up a free trail map at the Tourist Information Centre and join the hunt to find all 60 gorillas!  More about Wow! 2. TreeFest: Festival of the Tree

Take part in a programme of exciting activities throughout August at Westonbirt: local live music, workshops, Medieval archery, displays etc. The programme will finish with the ultimate celebration of trees at Westonbirt’s new summer Bank Holiday event, TreeFest (from 26th to 29th August). Tickets on the day are sold £12 and £10 (concession) but you can save £2 by booking in advance!  More about TreeFest


3. See No Evil- UK’s largest street art project ever

Nelson Street Bristol - See No Evil

This summer Bristol hosted the most ambitious permanent street art project ever to take place in the UK. The world’s leading street artists painted the facades of ten multi-storey buildings along Nelson Street as part of ‘See No Evil’. The street was transformed on 20th August resulting in one of the world's largest outdoor art exhibitions. 4. Water Zorbing at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway

For just £5 a go, climb inside a large transparent Waterwalkerz ball and experience the sensation of walking on water as you roll across an outdoor inflatable pool. Try Water Zorbing at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway until 28th August.  More about water zorbing


5. Foodie fun at Brunel's ss Great Britain 

Discover the true story of the ship and her passengers during the Bank Holiday weekend. Step back in time and celebrate 'Food glorious Food' events, see the new Galley and meet Mr Brunel himself. 6. Shaun the Sheep Championsheeps Live

Shaun the Sheep and friends will be hosting a sports day with a difference in At-Bristol until 31st August. Lots of events are planned: the Shirley’s Pieathlon, the Naughty Pig Sack Race and many more!  It will cost you £1.50 per person plus standard admission to At-Bristol. 7. Catch Sea Rex at Bristol Aquarium

Journey to a Prehistoric World that takes audiences on a thrilling journey back in time to explore an amazing underwater universe inhabited by larger-than-life creatures which were ruling the seas before dinosaurs conquered the earth. 8. Beryl Cook: Larger Than Life

Larger Than Life is a major free exhibition of original paintings by Britain's most popular painter, Beryl Cook. The exhibition of over 60 original paintings includes many from the Cook family's own collection, which have never been seen before in public.  More about the exhibition 


9. See M Shed, Bristol’s new £27 million history museum

M Shed

Situated on the historic Harbourside, M Shed is the much anticipated and exciting new history museum of Bristol that tells the story of our city. The 1950s transit shed, originally called M Shed, on Bristol’s historic wharf has been transformed into a brand new museum. Thought-provoking and fun, M Shed challenges the perceptions of what it has meant to live here over the centuries through the recollections of the people who shaped the city. 10. Take a Bristol Treasure Trail 

Enjoy the last rays of the summer sun with a fun outdoor activity called Bristol Treasure Trails. Treasure Trails are a great way to explore, getting you and the family out and about with a sense of adventure in your step, too. Each trail includes step-by-step walking directions around a route that's been worked out to ensure that you see the best, most interesting, scenic and historic parts of Bristol.
