Bristol welcomes a year of excitement and games

Bristol makes a perfect base for those visiting England in the summer of 2012. Located just over an hour and a half from London by train, the historic city of Bristol offers heritage, arts, culture, maritime history, international events and so much more.

 Bristol Half Marathon

Throughout 2012, Bristol will celebrate with a range of activities. In early May the city will welcome the Kenyan Olympic Team who will be based in Bristol. On 22nd May, the Torch Relay arrives in Bristol and will include an evening celebration for visitors in Bristol’s city centre. On the same day, M Shed, Bristol’s new £27 million history centre will open a sporting exhibition called Bristol Urban Sport and the Torch Relay will leave the city on 23rd May.

May to June will see the ‘Bristol Games’ and Bristol’s Biggest Bike Ride will take over the city in June as well.

Other activities will include an Olympic Run event on 23rd June, School Games County Finals on 25th July, a Bristol Triathlon in July and the Robot Games 20th through 21st August. In September, the Bristol Half Marathon takes off and from 8th through 9th September, the city will welcome Nowhere Island as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
