Bristol Old Vic is England’s oldest continuously working theatre and a cultural gem. In March 2011, the Old Vic started work on a major £19.26 million redevelopment project - a scheme that has been promised to the city for almost 20 years.

Throughout 2011 and the first half of 2012, the theatre will redevelop their Georgian auditorium and backstage areas. However, the rest of the building is still open and the company is producing a full programme of work at Bristol Old Vic and around the city in 2012.
The centrepiece of this activity is the coupling of two titans of the world stage – Harold Pinter and Samuel Beckett. In one evening Associate Director Simon Godwin will present a double bill of A Kind of Alaska by Pinter and Krapp’s Last Tape by Beckett.
The theatre will reopen in the second half of 2012 with a fanfare of entertainment - which will be announced in early 2012. It will include another high profile Christmas show, plus a full programme of exciting and dynamic work.
A second phase of construction is due to begin in 2014. During this second phase, the foyers, cafe and studio spaces will be transformed. The entire project will be completed by 2016; in time for the Old Vic’s 250th anniversary.
