'Brunel's Bristol' Itinerary

BrunelThe great Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel has left Bristol a momentous legacy. Here are the key Brunel attractions around the city. Take a look at Brunel's story.

Brunel's Bristol

Clifton Suspension BridgeClifton Suspension Bridge - A monument to Brunel's engineering brilliance and the city's icon. For an alternative view, visit the Camera Obscura next to the Bridge. Also, visit the Bridge when it's illuminated at night.

Brunel's ss Great Britain - sitting in the dry dock from where she was launched in 1843 as the first ever iron passenger liner and part of Brunel's London to New York transport network.

Harbour Ferry Tour - get a fascinating insight into Brunel's ingenious invention, the Floating Harbour. Try the Bristol Ferry Boat Company or the Bristol Packet.

The Old Station - next to Temple Meads Station and partly home to the new British Empire & Commonwealth Museum, the old engine shed is open to public view.

Severnshed - finish off your day with a drink or meal in one of Brunel's original warehouses, now sympathetically converted into a stunning waterside bar and restaurant.

Brunel Statue - A statue of Brunel can be seen at Temple Back East, just off Temple Way (next to Temple Quay).

Walk the Brunel Mile, a pedestrian route which runs from Temple Meads station to Brunel's ss Great Britain. Along the route are a series of panels providing information and images reflecting Brunel's contribution to the city.
