There are plenty of free things to do in Bristol. Here are some of our top suggestions for places to visit which won't cost you a thing!
Walk across the Clifton Suspension Bridge, and enjoy amazing views over the Avon Gorge. Relax with a walk around the Downs or enjoy the splendour of Clifton Village.
Head to Bristol's City Museum & Art Gallery at the top of Park Street, to see art, archaeology, geology and natural history. The touring exhibitions change regularly and are always worth a look.
At Brandon Hill you can climb Cabot Tower for amazing views over the city. Stop for a picnic in Brandon Hill and enjoy the views over the city, while the kids play in the park.
You can stop off at the Georgian House with its 18th century furnishings or Red Lodge, which contains the last surviving 16th Century rooms in Bristol. Head back onto Park Street and walk to the bottom where you'll find College Green. You may like to take a tour around Bristol Cathedral. Free information leaflets are available or guided tours start at 11am on Saturdays during the summer.
Arnolfini, one of Europe's leading centres for the contemporary arts, hosts free touring exhibitions. A few doors down is the Architecture Centre which features exhibitions about design and the built environment.
Relax and enjoy a picnic around the harbourside, and don't forget to download the Bristol Quayside Adventure and follow the tour around the harbourside.
Other free attractions near the harbour include St Mary Redcliffe Church which is open daily with free lunchtime recitals on Thursdays during the summer, and the CREATE Centre which showcases art and exhibitions to promote sustainable living.
Take a day trip to Blaise Castle Estate, as featured in Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey. Visit the Blaise Castle House Museum, explore woodland paths and trails through the estate and climb the Castle tower. Children will enjoy the large adventure playground. Just a few minutes' walk around the corner is Blaise Hamlet, a picturesque hamlet of cottages.
There are many free festivals and events in Bristol, from major outdoor events like the EDF Energy Bristol Harbour Festival, Discovery Channel International Balloon Fiesta and Bristol International Festival of Kites and Air Creations to family fundays and owl prowls which take place in parks across the city. Pick up a free copy of 'Park Life' from Bristol Tourist Information Centres.
