Floating Harbour 200
Bristol's famous Floating Harbour celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2009, and the city is geared and ready to honour this special birthday in style.
From its conception as a practical lock system in the 19th Century to its important role as a bustling harbour, cultural hotspot and open space today, Bristol's Floating Harbour is known and loved by locals and visitors alike.
To celebrate the Harbour's 200th anniversary, a packed schedule of events, exhibitions, shows, talks and competitions will run throughout the year.

Where Do You Think You Are?
Bristol's Floating Harbour has changed in appearance many times over its 200 year existence. It's sometimes hard to imagine what different places once looked like. Now you can see for yourself!
For the next six months, over 100 panels have been installed around the Harbour showing views at different times in the past. Many of them have been installed at the point of view of the photographer or artist that created the image, so that you can make a direct comparison.
View the Interactive Map (opens in new window) of the Floating Harbour showing the location of each of the panels (you can print the map by simply clicking on the menu button in the top left corner of the map screen). From September there will be a trail booklet that guides you around the whole of the Harbour and gives more information about the places that you pass.
