Bristol is rapidly becoming the green capital of the UK. Weekly farmers' markets, the world's first regular slow food market and the Soil Association Organic Food Festival are all based here.
Things to See and Do
The CREATE Centre showcases everything to do with sustainable living, with art displays, exhibitions and an Ecohome, a showhouse demonstrating the latest in sustainable building techniques.
Bristol has over 450 parks and open spaces, proportionately more than any other UK city. Try the Downs, picnic in the regal splendour of Queen Square or take in the stunning views from Brandon Hill.
Bristol Festival of Nature takes place in Bristol every June, with a fun-packed weekend of walks, talks, workshops and animal encounters across the city.
Food and DrinkBordeaux Quay is a new venue comprising a restaurant, brasserie, bar, deli, bakery and cookery school. It's housed in a low-energy building, and focuses on using local suppliers, recycling and minimising waste.
Soil Association Organic Food Festival is Europe's largest celebration of organic food and farming. The Soil Association is based in the city.
Green Tourism Businesses
Local tourism businesses are making their own contribution to helping the environment by participating in the Green Tourism Business Scheme - see green places to stay that won't cost the earth.
Transport
Bristol is at the hub of the national Cycle Network, with its creator Sustrans based in the city. Explore the city sustainably with an open top bus tour, ferry, cycle or walk. See Visit Harbourside for green ways to get around.
Cyclists should head for Mud Dock Cycleworks and Cafe where you can park your bike securely, hire a locker and take a shower.
