Five action-packed weeks of sporting activities for families and young people kick off next month, heralding the arrival of a summer of sport in Bristol.
Things get under way at The Mall Galleries, Broadmead, on Saturday, July 7, where, every Saturday until August 4, the venue will host a range of free activities including sporting challenges, sports taster sessions, tennis coaching, gymnastics and Shaolin Kung Fu demonstrations, as well as the chance, on July 30, to meet and chat to Gloucestershire County cricketers.
This year sees the first ever citywide Bristol Hub Club junior holiday activity programme which offers high-quality, low-cost activities for young people ranging from archery to caving; craft to climbing and athletics to orienteering.
Local authority leisure centres and swimming pools will be joining in with a variety of activities including trampolining, indoor athletics, soccer school, circus skills, arts and crafts, hip hop dance, tag rugby and water mayhem.
This year also sees another milestone as Bristol Youth and Community Action celebrates its tenth anniversary. Once again, supported by BYCA, local community groups and organisations will be running a co-ordinated programme of activities for children and young people in some of the most disadvantaged parts of the city, reducing the risk of offending over summer.
The Summer of Sport programme, which runs from July 30 to August 31, is a joint initiative by Bristol City Council, Sport and Leisure Management Ltd, The Mall Galleries Broadmead, Bristol Youth and Community Action and GWR FM.
There's a bumper offering of sports and leisure activities this year for children, young people and all the family, much of it either free or low-cost, at venues across the city in your neighbourhood. There's something to suit everyone and taster sessions offer the chance to try out something new.
