Georgette Van Hoof, race organiser, said: "The Reebok Bristol Half Marathon attracts tens of thousands of runners and spectators into the city. With some 15,000 runners, not only is it the UK's second largest half marathon, but also it is considered to be one of the best-organised road race events. In order to facilitate the race we do have to close some roads in the city.

"We very much appreciate the support of motorists in observing the road closures and following the diversions in place. Anyone planning a journey across the city on Sunday, should check the website or pick up a Travel Info leaflet.

"For those who are taking part in the race and those coming along to watch and cheer, I would urge them to get in early - And best of all, enjoy the day."

For traffic queries, road closure information and alternative routes, please contact the Traffic Hotline tel. 0117 903 1212. This service will operate throughout the weekend of the race.

Many city centre car parks will be open and the park and ride buses from Long Ashton and Brislington will be operating during the day.

Broadmead will be open as usual on Sunday, there will be some bus service diversions and revised bus stop arrangements on the day.

Anyone making their way to the airport is strongly advised to check their route and allow plenty of time to follow any diversions.

For people wanting to watch the race and cheer the runners on the start and finish will be on Anchor Road and in addition, there are several designated cheer points along the route, including points at Castle Park, The Centre, Prince Street Bridge, Sylvan Way and Cumberland Basin.
