Colston Hall Bristol is pleased to announce that as part of its ongoing multimillion pound redevelopment eight acoustic banners have been installed in the main auditorium.
Designed by the project acousticians Kirkegaard and installed by Triple E, the banners are positioned on either side of the balcony and have made a significant improvement to the quality of sound in the Hall.
The acoustic banners are made from wool serge and are adjustable so can be rolled up or down depending on the requirements of the concert. For a rock or pop concert using amplified sound, the banners would be fully deplored, providing a much greater focus and clarity to the music. However for a classical concert, the purpose for which the hall was originally built, the banners will not be needed at all.
Will Gregory, writer, producer and keyboard player for the band Goldfrapp said:
"I am very excited that this work has been done and I'm looking forward to trying out the new acoustic banners when I perform in the hall on 1 December (as part of the musicians for a new score for the classic silent film, He Who Gets Slapped)."
Graeme Howell, Director of Colston Hall said:
"Colston Hall is striving to give our audiences the best possible experience. We recognised that the quality of amplified music in our balcony seating area could be improved on and with the installation of the banners, an interim part of the overall redevelopment of the hall, we are definitely making progress."
