Colston Hall - Bristol International Classical Season launches September

Colston Hall's Bristol International Classical Season 2007/2008 launches this September with symphony orchestras, world class soloists and more.

For the new season there are some great visiting orchestras from overseas. Colston Hall are particularly proud to welcome the Orchestre National de France for its first visit to Bristol on 14 November. This flagship French Orchestra will play Bruckner's Symphony No 7, conducted by a man synonymous with Bruckner - Kurt Masur. The Russian invasion comes early when the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio (formerly the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra) opens the season on 28 September, and there's another first for Bristol in the form of the Vienna Tonkunstler Orchestra on 20 February. They are joined by the beautiful and talented Nicola Benedetti who delighted a packed audience at Colston Hall in 2006.

As usual there are visits from our partner orchestras the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra. The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra celebrates the wonderful music of Rachmaninov with their Rachmaninov Season which includes his Second and Third piano concertos, Symphonic Dances and Third Symphony. The Philharmonia round things off at the end of the season on 27 March with a cracker, including Mahler's heavenly Symphony no 4.

Michael Henson, Managing Director of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra said:

"We are particularly excited about the series of pieces by Rachmaninov which will feature across the season, performed by great conductors, great soloists and, of course, our great orchestra."

David Whelton, Managing Director of the Philharmonia Orchestra, said:

"The Orchestra is delighted to be returning to Colston Hall in its 2007/08 Classical Season, this time with Mikko Frank at the helm. He will be joined by the exceptional violinist Viviane Hagner for Prokofiev's First Violin Concerto and Solveig Kringelborn for Mahler's Fourth Symphony, in what promises to be part of yet another fantastic series of concerts in Bristol."

Celebrated conductors include award winning Marin Alsop, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Andrew Litton and the legendary Kurt Masur, while the world class soloists visiting this year include violinists Sarah Chang and Nicola Benedetti as well as pianists Louis Lortie and Colston Hall favourite John Lill.

Graeme Howell, Director of Colston Hall said,

"The Bristol International Classical Season 06/07 saw many highlights and for 07/08 we are pleased to build on the tradition of presenting rare visits from international orchestras and performers. We are particularly proud to be welcoming the renowned Orchestre National de France with the legendary Kurt Masur as well as the Vienna Tonkustler Orchestra with Nicola Benedetti."

Individual tickets and series bookings are now being taken. Discounts start at 5% with bookings of four concerts or more, rising to a maximum of 20% for all 10 concerts. Tickets are just £5 for anyone under the age of 26. Call the Colston Hall box office on 0117 922 3686 for further information or see Colston Hall
