This Christmas the Tobacco Factory Theatre presents a lively new adaptation of a heart-warming family favourite.
As a young man, Ebeneezer Scrooge dreamed of being a world-class inventor. But that was long ago, before life turned his ambition to dust and left him a bumbling, grouchy old miser who can't even see the point of Christmas.
This seasonal night however, his world is about to be turned upside down when some rather unexpected guests arrive to whisk him away on a whirlwind journey through the strange and vivid landscapes of his past, present and future...
Set against a backdrop of Dickensian Bristol, A Christmas Carol promises to be another fabulously entertaining production with a cast of hilarious characters, larger than life performances and fantastic original songs that you will be humming right into 2009.
The creative team includes playwright Toby Farrow who adapted the Tobacco Factory's Jungle Book, award-winning director Andy Burden who directed the smash-hit Christmas show last year Alice Through The Looking Glass and Katie Sykes who designed The Ugly Duckling also produced last year. Musical director Liz Purnell whose credits include a number of shows in the Shakespeare season joins them.
Director Andy Burden is really excited to be directing the show this year, "I love A Christmas Carol. What's great about it is that it's a bit dark and a bit scary, and yet has such an uplifting and heart-warming ending. It's also very, very funny. When people leave the show, we really want them to feel what a special time of year Christmas is."
From Tiny Tim to Fezziwig, Marley's ghost to Bob Crachitt, A Christmas Carol is packed full of memorable characters. The ensemble includes a couple of familiar faces from last year's smash-hit Alice Through The Looking Glass: Chris Bianchi who played the White King and Paul Mundell, (Humpty Dumpty). They are joined by local actor Tom Wainwright (Aesop's Fables), Felix Hayes, Kali Hughes and Heather Saunders.
