Bristol Wine & Food Fair Announced

Bristol Wine & Food Fair 2008This summer, Bristol will be hosting the first Bristol Wine & Food Fair; a new three day event which will offer visitors the chance to sample, enjoy, learn and discover more about fine wine and good food. Some 15,000+ people are expected to attend the event from 11 - 13 July on Bristol's harbourside.

Visitors will be able to taste for free hundreds of wines from all over the world and buy by the glass, bottle or case. There will also be a wine & cheese tasting theatre offering the chance to learn from wine and cheese experts in tutored tastings. For food lovers there will be a restaurants tasting area where visitors can sample signature dishes from some of the top local restaurants, a wine & cheese pavilion showcasing acclaimed UK cheese producers and small independent wine importers and a food & drink market selling a selection of some of the region's best produce.

The event will champion small independent businesses, from producers and distributors to vineyards. By showcasing wines from some of the most talented producers in the world, visitors will have a rare opportunity to taste and buy vintage wines not available in any of the mainstream supermarkets.

A wide range of wine companies have already signed up for the Fair. These range from large importers/distributors like Brown Brothers/Cono Sur, who import Australian and Chilean wine from their own vineyards in their native countries, to smaller specialist importers who focus on one wine producing area such as Jarvis of St James, who import fine champagnes direct form vineyards in Champagne, France.

There will be small independent wine growers like Clos de Perdu, Domaine Treloar who produce excellent hand crafted wines from their small estates in southern France to companies like La Maison Yvonnick Debray a wine growers collective from Côte de Beaune, one of the best wine growing regions in the world.

Closer to home there will be a UK vineyard section showcasing the best of English wine and promotion of established local wine merchants such as Averys, Bristol Wine Company and Corks of Cotham who have been responsible for elevating the quality of wine available in Bristol.

These fine wine producers will be joined by acclaimed local chefs and restaurants celebrating Bristol's diverse and exceptional culinary talent. Visitors will be able to sample signature dishes from some 10 local restaurants including French, English, Chinese, Indian, Asian and modern cuisine with participating restaurants including Bordeaux Quay, Fishworks, Budokan, and Bells Diner.

Food lovers will have a superb selection of produce to sample. A whole range of gastronomic delights is on offer from charcuterie and pates to fine organic meat and produce. The cheese and wine pavilion will feature a wide range of delicious local cheeses - among those confirmed to date are Bath Soft Cheese, Cranborne Chase Cheese, Trethowans Dairy and Worthy Farm Cheddar. Meanwhile, those with a sweet tooth should head straight for the Kernow Confectionery stand.

This new event has its roots in Bristol's former World Wine Fair, which ran throughout the 1970s and 1980s, but has a new look and feel with the marriage of local food and wine. "We wanted to bring food into the equation", says Mike Cardwell, from Bristol Event Management. "There's so much excellent produce on offer in the West Country and so many exciting chefs working locally. We want people to have the opportunity to taste and have fun while learning at the same time. Visitors will be able to educate their palates and discover what they like and perhaps try something new."
