An evening with John Cleese for Bristol Zoo Gardens

From pythons to parrots and all the fierce creatures in between!

John CleeseJohn Cleese will be appearing on stage in Clifton this summer for three special evening events in support of Bristol Zoo Gardens.

The Monty Python star, who grew up in Weston-super-Mare, will be giving three performances from Wednesday July 23rd to Friday July 25th 2008 at The Redgrave Theatre.

Each evening will include an on-stage conversation between John and television presenter Chris Serle, followed by an opportunity for the audience to ask questions.

Tickets for 'John Cleese in Conversation with Chris Serle' will go on sale from Tuesday (April 22nd) at 10am, and cost £50 each.

A small number of tickets are also available for an after-show private reception with John, where champagne and canapes will be served. Combined tickets for the performance and the after-show champagne reception cost £150 each.

Spaces for both events are limited, so booking is essential. Bookings can only be made by phoning Bristol Zoo Gardens on 0117 974 7300 between 10am and 5pm - see the Zoo website for more information.

All the proceeds from these performances will help fund the Zoo's current and future valuable conservation and education projects; these are conducted both here in the UK and abroad and range from native invertebrates in Bristol to the rare lemurs of Madagascar.

Mr. Cleese, who went to school at Clifton College, near Bristol Zoo Gardens, visited the Zoo as a boy and fell in love with lemurs at an early age. He has been back to visit the Zoo on several occasions and has championed the cause of lemurs and their conservation for many years. As a result of his campaigning work, a new species of woolly lemur was named after him; Avahi cleesei was discovered in Madagascar by Urs Thalmann of Zurich University.

Mr. Cleese said he was happy to be returning to the city for the events. He said: "I'm very much looking forward to returning to Bristol for these performances, which are intended to help contribute to important conservation work both here and abroad. Bristol Zoo was a familiar haunt of mine when I was living next door at Clifton College."

Tickets for the John Cleese events (on July 23rd, 24th and 25th) will be available to buy from 10am on Tuesday, April 22nd by phone and credit/debit card only. Booking is essential.

To buy tickets phone Bristol Zoo Gardens on 0117 974 7300. Doors will open at 6pm on the night, with the performance starting at 6.30pm.
