Cheers For Beer At The Railway

5th Bitton Beer FestivalFor ardent beer drinkers, the place to quench your thirst this weekend has to be the 5th Bitton Beer Festival.

Hosted by the Avon Valley Railway at Bitton Station, this popular event draws Real Ale devotees from a wide area and opens on Friday evening.

"One of the big attractions is the fact that we make no entry charge" said Aaron Stone, AVR's Catering Manager, "This year we are hosting 30 ales from around the country - plus a range of ciders. The beers include a number from local breweries who have loyally supported us each year"

A large covered bar area - sporting an aptly named inn sign for "The Railway" - is the centre for the festival and ale vouchers priced at £1.25 per half-pint can be purchased each day at the station booking office. Snacks and nibbles are available at the bar and the station buffet will be open during the day, with a barbeque on Friday and Saturday evenings.

"It's a wonderfully relaxing way to enjoy good beer surrounded by the nostalgia of a railway at a country station" enthused Aaron Stone. "Besides the beer, visitors can enjoy diesel hauled services on Saturday or steam trains on Sunday. In addition, on Sunday there's the opportunity to break up the day with a 40-minutes boat trip into the Avon valley".

The Bitton Beer Festival runs from 6.00pm - 9.00pm on Friday 6th June, 12 noon to 8.00pm on Saturday 7th and 12.noon to 5.00pm on Sunday 8th June. More information can be obtained from the Avon Valley Railway website www.avonvalleyrailway.org or by calling the station on 0117 932 5538
