Bristol Records Office look after the archives of the city of Bristol and make them available to everybody. Everyone is welcome to visit the searchroom to look at the records and ask advice on their own research. There is no charge for this. Many records are now available here on microform in a self-service system. There is also a digital picture library which at present makes nearly 6000 pictures of Bristol and Bristolians available on pc in our searchroom. High-quality copies of these can be supplied on request.
Bristol Record Office was established in 1924. It was the first borough record office in the country and at the time there was only one other local record office in existence.

By car: situated 1.5 miles from the City centre, follow the signs to the CREATE centre. Free public car parks nearby.
Bus - 500 from the city centre and Temple Meads station at half hourly intervals. Out of town bus services run regularly from Broadmead bus station and the city centre. For details of the bus timetables and routes, contact TRAVELINE on 0870 608 2608.
Train - Temple Meads station is two miles from the Record Office. From the station you can take a taxi, catch the 500 bus, take a ferry or a 45-minute walk.
Bike - A cycle track runs from the city centre to the Record Office.
Park and Ride - Long Ashton Park and Ride bus stops in Dowry Square, Hotwells. It departs from Merchant's Road bus stop, Hotwells.
