The 2010 Bristol International Festival of Kites & Air Creations will take place in Ashton Court
Estate, Bristol over the weekend of 4th and 5th September. The festival will be celebrating 25
years of flying high and will also be a part of the Year of Flight - marking 100 years of the Bristol
Aeroplane Company.

Following record crowds and fantastic flying conditions in 2009 the Kite festival is promising an
action packed aerial extravaganza. This will feature spectacular flying displays, kite fighting
battles, breathtaking synchronised routines flown to music and awesome power kites as well as
colourful ground-based inflatables and air sculptures of all shapes and sizes.

On the Sunday the Festival will also follow on from Bristol s Half Marathon offering visitors to the
city a bumper weekend of entertainment. Organisers are already working closely together to
ensure everyone gets the best out of both events.

International kite guests will be winging their way from as far as New Zealand, Tasmania, the Caribbean and USA to join flyers and enthusiasts from across Europe.

Festival highlights will include:

Spectacular and colourful sea-themed kites including giant swirling octopi and squids, a flying scuba diver, a giant mermaid and Roly the mega killer whale.
Special shapes including flying bears, tigers, dogs and cats designed and made in New Zealand by festival favourite Peter Lynn.
Team sport kite routines choreographed and flown to music including The Decorators quad line display team and Scratch Bunnies the current European Sport Kite Champions.
Vast spinning wheels from Italy.
The brute power of man-lifting kite surf wings and the thrills and spills of kite-propelled buggies and land boards.
Aerial combat with traditional Japanese fighting kites each vying to be the last one in the sky.
A pageant of kites through the ages with a focus on the last 100 years of kite developments as part of the BAC100 programme.
Free children’s kite-making workshops.

The Festival programme runs on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September from 12.00 noon to 5.30pm. To add to the festive atmosphere there will also be fantastic play structures and children’s attractions, selected specialist kite traders, a licensed bar and an array of appetising food and drink.
