Hands On Activities at the City Museum & Art Gallery
Handle real objects and get creative with a range of themed activities every month, such as Strike a Light, Toy time, Natural World, going Underground and many more! These popular free drop-in activities are run on a first-come first-served basis. Children must have adult supervision.

The museum is full of colourful objects – create some colourful masks and collages related to some of our dazzling displays. Suitable for children aged 2-11 years. No need to book. Drop-in.
The Shape of Things, our current exhibition has many links to the museum collections but can you work out what they are? A range of activities and handling objects will help you 'make that link' to find out more about the collections and how the artists were inspired by objects in surprising ways. Have fun creating your own moving toys (a snapping crocodile, a rocking horse and lots more) and discover what children played with in the past by handling some traditional toys. Suitable for children aged 2-11 years. No need to book. Drop-in.

Come and explore the wonders of the ‘Natural World’ with a day of craft and handling activities dedicated to all creatures - great and small. An International Year of Biodiversity event. Suitable for children aged 2-11 years. No need to book. Drop-in.
