Bristol Harbour Festival dates announced
Wednesday, 22nd April 2009
The Bristol Harbour Festival will return to the city from 31st July to 2nd August 2009, filling the Bristol and its historic harbourside with live music, arts, dance, children’s entertainment and unmissable circus performances.
Following on from the success of the festival in 2008, which achieved record breaking visitor figures and boasted an entertainment programme that celebrated the culturally-rich city, the Bristol City Council Festivals and Events team is focused on delivering the city’s flagship event.
Simon Cook, Deputy Leader and Cabinet member for Culture, Sports Capital Projects explains: “The festival will feature eight live music stages showcasing all genres from big band to reggae and funk, jazz and indie, acoustic and rock. Supporting and showcasing local talent alongside established artists and international performers, the festival brings together an eclectic range of musicians that will be announced in the lead up to the event.”
The Dance Village which launched last year will be making a welcomed return with a diverse line up across three stages. It’s presence in 2008 was met with support and excitement and has become an integral part of the festival’s growth and development offering the chance to see some world-leading dance.
Simon continued: “The city will become a hive of activity with breath taking aerial and acrobatic displays by Cirque Bijou, continental food markets filled with the finest selection of foods and produce, unique craft stalls and children’s entertainment with art workshops to take part in, face painting and puppet performances. The anticipated fireworks display, which never fails to impress, will be taking place on the Saturday night.”
