Monday, 15th June 2009
Bristol-based television presenter Monty Halls will take his ‘Great Escape’ to an audience on-board Brunel’s ss Great Britain on 15th July 2009.
Monty Halls, who lives in Bristol, is best known for his BBC 2 series ‘Monty Halls’ Great Escape’, in which the marine biologist and professional diver turned his back on city life to become a 21st century beachcomber on the west coast of Scotland.
Monty will talk about his escapades in the Scottish Highlands with neighbours, pigs and faithful hound Reuben, before signing books.
‘An Evening with TV’s Monty Halls’, starts at 6pm, costs £10, and includes a welcome drink and opportunity to explore Brunel’s ss Great Britain. Monty’s talk begins at 7:00pm and will finish at 9.30pm.
The talk and book signing will take place in the ship’s First Class Dining Saloon and on the Promenade Deck.
Television viewers will also recognise Monty from programmes such as Channel 5’s ‘Great Ocean Adventures’, Channel 4’s ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’, and ‘The Perfect Weapon’ on National Geographic. Winner of Channel 4’s ‘Superhuman’, the affable former marine delivers motivational expeditions and talks for corporate clients.
Monty Halls commented: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be asked to speak on the ss Great Britain.
“It is one of Bristol's great landmarks, a monument to seafaring and the extraordinary vision of Brunel. The people Bristol should be justifiably proud of an attraction that draws in visitors from around the world.
“I'm very much looking forward to doing the talk, and hopefully having a quick tour of the ship afterwards!”
The ss Great Britain Trust’s Fundraising Officer Gary Musson, who is organising the event, said: “Monty is extremely charismatic, an entertaining raconteur, and we are delighted that he has agreed to deliver a talk on board Brunel’s ss Great Britain.
“This event will give people the chance to be entertained and to experience this historic ship during the evening. Brunel’s ss Great Britain is truly stunning at dusk and the ship will be lit up from below her glass ‘sea’ when guests depart.
“Money we raise through this event will go towards the ss Great Britain Trust’s ‘Brunel Institute Founders’ Campaign’.”
He added: “We have a limited number of tickets available, so people are strongly recommended to book soon to avoid disappointment.”
