Wednesday, 13th January 2010

The Russian State Ballet of Siberia returns to the UK after a highly acclaimed tour in 2009, bringing to life three of the world’s most beautiful and popular ballets in its exquisite traditional productions - Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.

Russian State Ballet of Siberia - Swan LakeFormed in 1981, The Russian State Ballet of Siberia has now established itself as one of Russia’s leading ballet companies and has built an international reputation for delivering performances of outstanding quality and unusual depth.

Swan Lake is perhaps the greatest romantic ballet of all. This is an immortal love story filled with magic, emotion and beauty. From the opulence of the court to the enchanted lake scenes, Tchaikovsky’s hauntingly beautiful music creates a truly unforgettable experience.

“ …a powerful performance of the tragic tale” ABERDEEN EVENING EXPRESS

In a magical production of The Nutcracker, we are transported to an enchanted world where toy dolls come to life as an army of soldiers does battle with a gang of mice and a Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince. Tchaikovsky’s beautiful score captures perfectly the spirit of Christmas Eve in this, the most famous of fairy-tale ballets.

“The scenery turned the stage into a winter wonderland” SOUTH WALES ARGUS

During last year’s tour the company of 42 dancers got through over 200 pairs of ballet shoes between them, and generally expects to use about 800 pairs in any given year. The Russian State Ballet of Siberia has visited the UK many times before and enjoys performing for British audiences. “We have loved our UK tours,” said Artistic Director Sergei Bobrov. “We see people here who really love and understand ballet.”
