Beethoven / Caine Diabelli Variations UK Premiere
Formidable, internationally renowned New York jazz pianist / composer Uri Caine boldly reconstructs Beethoven’s transcendent Diabelli Variations, recasting the familiar melodies in revealing and surprising ways.
True to Beethoven from beginning to end, Caine combines penetrating, virtuosic improvisations on the piano with a fully realised performance by the excellent sinfonia ViVA: the orchestra faithful to Beethoven's letter, the piano faithful to the spirit.
Brilliant and illuminating, these lovingly performed ‘variations upon variations’ will impress open-minded classical and jazz enthusiasts alike.
