Cosmos: A new Community Opera

Cosmos

Mark Lawrence director
Claire Williamson writer
Laurie Gethin soprano
Niall Hoskins baritone

Discover creation myths and legends of the ancient past; find out about Galileo, ‘the father of modern science’, and Newton, physicist and alchemist; and explore the future of space travel with Cosmos – an exciting new opera, written and performed by 200 primary school children from Knowle West and Horfield.

Cosmos is the culmination of a creative year-long project with pupils from The School of Christ the King, Greenfield and Horfield Primary Schools, St Mary Redcliffe and Cotham schools, and the Cosmos Community Choir, and is aimed at giving young participants a first, unforgettable experience of opera.

A tour de force tale, Cosmos is the story of everything - from the first microseconds of our universe to the exciting future of life beyond our Earth.

The Cosmos: one big bang, a hundred billion galaxies, a billion trillion stars, billions of comets, thousands of asteroids, countless worlds - the mysterious and lovely stuff of life.
