A world première of a musical farce based on L’Amour Médecin by Molière.
Music by David Lyon
Book and lyrics by A.C.H. Smith
Musical direction by Christopher Northam
Stage direction and choreography by Vicki Klein
Rich widower Scandrell doesn’t want his daughter Lucinda to marry (maybe for Freudian reasons, but more likely because he’s too mean to fork out a dowry). Feather-brained Lucinda can’t outwit him, but crafty servant Lisette handles it. She gets Lucinda to feign illness, and her suitor Clarence to pretend to be the doctor who cures her.
Bristol playwright A.C.H. Smith joins forces with composer David Lyon, acclaimed musical director Christopher Northam, whose credits include the soundtrack for Gosford Park, and stage director/choreographer Vicki Klein to present a delicious musical farce about the uselessness of the medical profession.
With an ensemble of some 30 performers, dancers and musicians, Doctor Love promises to be a thoroughly uplifting and extravagant evening of comic musical theatre.
