La Serenissima

La Serenissima & Adrian Chandler

Vivaldi Concerto in F RV569
Locatelli Concerto da chiesa in C Op 4/11
Locatelli Concerto in F Op 4/12
Sammartini Concerto à più stromenti in E flat
Tartini Concerto in B flat D117
Vivaldi Concerto in D RV 562a

The matchless La Serenissima brings its trademark vitality to the last of its concerts exploring the north Italian violin concerto, a discerning programme of exceptional music by the greatest Baroque violinist-composers.

With playing full of life and bracing energy the performance is never less than scintillating, a superbly stylish comparison of Vivaldi’s inventive flair with the virtuoso creations of his younger contemporaries.

Dominated by founder Adrian Chandler’s clear-headed brilliance, given vigorous support by players who clearly revel in the music, and uniquely playing at the correct (more contemporary and brighter hued) pitch, this is as close as we’ll ever get to the experience of its original audience: expressively beautiful music played exactly as the composers intended.
