My Baby Just Cares For Me charts the erratic course of a daughter’s love for her father through thick and thin. As their circumstances veer between the ludicrously absurd and the painfully ridiculous, they discover that the small moments of joy and laughter become ever more precious in a topsy-turvy world. Full Beam Visual Theatre’s latest production is their first foray into semi-Autobiographical theatre. Drawing on the personal experiences of company members, friends and family, My Baby Just Cares For Me is a frank and funny portrayal of what it means to be a carer and to be cared for.
Using their signature fusion of puppets and performers, combined with Super 8 projection and upside down physicality and getting about as far away from the kitchen sink as it is possible to go, this is a sharp, stylish show with a sizzling soundtrack. In a country with a rapidly aging population, where pension plans and life plans don’t match up, who’s going to look after our parents? What are you going to do with yours?
