Considered to be the highlight of Italian opera, Otello, Verdi's riveting masterpiece opens WNO's Autumn 2008 season with this new production.
This tragic work charts the downfall of the noble Moorish General Otello - who loses everything he loves, including his own sanity, through the envy, ambition, duplicity and hatred of his lieutenant Iago. This calculating villain ensnares Otello's wife Desdemona and convinces him of her infidelity - resulting in tragedy.
This brand new production sees the UK mainscale debut of the renowned director Paul Curran (who has recently been appointed General Director of the Norwegian Opera) and is a spectacular showcase for the incredible voice of Dennis O'Neill, celebrating his 60th year.
Sung in Italian with English and Welsh surtitles.
