Arabella Steinbacher

Ravel Ma Mere l'Oye (Mother Goose Suite)
Brahms Violin Concerto
Stravinsky The Rite of Spring
Conductor Charles Dutoit
Violin Arabella Steinbacher

An enchanting fairy tale, a savage 'rite' which caused riots at its 1913 Paris premiere - very much on home territory Charles Dutoit conducts two early 20th century masterpieces divided by only a couple of years yet contrasting chic elegance with raw, implosive energy. Separating them - and standing between the Sibelius and Tchaikovsky concertos which create a three-pronged 'fiddlefest' at the end of our season - the violinist dubbed 'Fraulein-Wunder' by the Regensburger Zeitung applies her 'luminous tonal depth swaddled in velvet' (Chicago Tribune) to Brahms’ commanding Concerto, a work by turn symphonic, serene and scintillating.
