Sunday World Series - Etran Finatawa

Etran Finatawa

A band of extremes, Etran Finatawa’s backstory is fascinating – two legendary groups of desert nomads, the Wodaabe and the Tuareg, with a war-scarred history and very different traditions and languages, meld their music for the annual Festival in the Desert. But even without the mythical context this is spellbinding music, capturing a mesmeric mix of loping African rhythm, rich, haunting chants and rolling, stuttering electric guitar that simultaneously evokes the stringed instruments of the southern Sahara and the oldest of Delta blues. Sparse, urgent, dark and rockin', this is everything that makes desert sounds unmissable.

Pre-Concert Workshop 3.30pm - 4.30pm

Find out about the Wodaabe and the Tuareg at this workshop before the main performance. Ask questions and learn about their customs and music. Discover everything from how to tune the instruments, to how to train a camel!
