The Matthew is a fabulous and faithful reconstruction of the boat used by John Cabot when he discovered Newfoundland in 1497, becoming the first European known to have set foot on the American mainland.
The Matthew was built to cross the Atlantic on the 500th anniversary of Cabot’s famous journey. Today, she is ussually moored alongside Brunel's ss Great Britain, as part of the visitor attraction, and is available for year-round public harbour cruises and private charters around Bristol's harbour, as well as summer sailing passages around the British Isles.
