usa > UK based Tour Operators specialising in SW England > Wessex Heritage - Pre-history tour
Visitors from the USA have been thrilled by one of our guided tours beginning at the 'UNESCO' Avebury World Heritage Complex, where they enter a 5,500 year-old burial chamber at West Kennet, view the largest man-made hill in Europe at Silbury Hill before entering the world's largest stone circle at Avebury.
The tour continues to Salisbury Cathedral, which has the tallest spire in Britain. Those with a head for heights can climb the 332 steps of winding spiral staircases and walk through passageways that weave amongst the 28,000 tons of ancient oak that create the roof before being rewarded with majestic views overlooking the city and countryside.
With feet firmly back on the ground the cathedral tour continues viewing the oldest working clock in Europe and the best preserved original Magna Carta (AD1215) on display in the Chapter House.
Back into prehistory and finally to Stonehenge where, for five millennia the megalithic standing stones have remained a mystery, standing sentinel over Salisbury Plain.
