Truro

The Cathedral City of Truro is an intriguing mix of the historic blending sensitively with the new. Truro is acknowledged as the shopping capital of Cornwall with major national retailers and small specialist shops to be found along Georgian streets and bustling ope-ways.

The City's greatest attractions are its simplest pleasures, be it exploring its lively squares or relaxing in one of its award-winning gardens.

Truro was founded on wealth brought by the early trade in tin in the 13th Century and by the 18th Century, Truro was the social centre of Cornwall. Fine examples of Georgian and Victorian architecture may be seen throughout the city.

Truro CathederalTruro's cobbled streets buzz with buskers and performers, providing a colourful backdrop for visitors and shoppers. The City offers a wealth of entertainment catering for every taste from The Hall For Cornwall, the county's theatre complex, to the cathedral with its concerts and recitals; a multi-screen cinema, live music venues, nightclubs and a wide range of restaurants, pubs, bars and cafes. A visit to the Royal Cornwall Museum and Gallery will reveal the county's social and cultural past.

Truro is centrally placed to explore the county, with the majority of Cornwall's attractions within an hour's drive away.

The city is well served by public transport including train, bus and ferry services. You can take a boat from Town Quay and meander down river to Falmouth or St Mawes, and return by train or bus.

Eat, shop or be entertained in Truro with Lemon Quay as the lively hub of the city. The new events area has a varied programme of activities throughout the year, from live music and fetes to local farmers markets and regular Made in Cornwall art and craft and Cornish food and produce fairs, showcasing the very best that Cornwall has to offer.

A visit to Truro would not be complete without a visit to the cathedral or the Royal Cornwall Museum. Everywhere in the city is within walking distance and linked by a series of ope ways and walks as well as wide cobbled shopping streets. Visit in Spring or Summer to enjoy the striking floral displays, or in Winter for the famous City of Lights parade and winter festival.
