Moor to Sea in Devon

Stay either at luxury Gidleigh Park near Chagford or at the 3* Edgemoor Hotel both located in Dartmoor National Park.

Each day itinerary is colour coded on the map.

Day 1 - red route
It's a Dartmoor day today. Head for the Haytor and do the gentle walk to the top to enjoy the views. Perhaps have lunch at the Rock Inn and then continue on to Widecombe in the Moor. Return to Bovey Tracey and pop in to the Devon Guild of Craftsmen where you could also enjoy afternoon tea.

Day 2 - blue route
Head to Torquay today. Wander round the attractive harbour and seafront, and visit some of the Agatha Christie connections. Head on to Paignton to board the steam railway to Kingswear, and take the little ferry across to picturesque Dartmouth. From Dartmouth, you can take the boat up the river Dart past Agatha Christie's house Greenway to the Elizabethan town of Totnes. From Totnes, there's a bus completing the round trip back to Paignton.

Day 3 - pink route
Visit the picturesque small Dartmoor town of Chagford today. There's nice places for lunch here, or for that gourmet experience, at nearby Gidleigh Park. In the afternoon visit Castle Drogo. It's worth either walking down the Hunter's Path from here, or taking the car down to Fingle Bridge. You can sit by the river here and enjoy a traditional Devon cream tea.

Day 4 - green route
Head into Plymouth today visiting the Barbican area from where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail back in the 17th century to discover America, and Plymouth Hoe where Sir Francis Drake finished a game of bowls before setting sail to defeat the Spanish Armada. Take a boat trip from the Barbican to see Plymouth from the sea.

Day 5 - orange route
Head into the cathedral city of Exeter today visiting the cathedral and surrounding area. From Exeter, head for the old quayside town of Topsham with it's antique and tea shops, riverside walks and pubs.
