Can you imagine what it was like to live in the Stone Age? From 25 July – 1 September you can! Caveman Curiosity shines the spotlight on our inventive and curious ancestors. Find out what it was like to live in pre-historic Britain compared to our modern way of life here in the 21st Century. Be immersed in a fun and educational experience brought to life by hunter-gatherers who love to pass on their knowledge and bring the Stone Age era to life.

Talks & 'live' demonstrations

Throughout the day from 11am - 4pm, you’ll have the chance to discover how Cheddar Man and his ancestors lived and survived here 10,000 years ago. Watch the ancient art of fire lighting and tool making and come along to fun 'Imagine life in the Stone Age' sessions where you will leave 2024 behind. Join the hunter-gatherers for fascinating talks about their way of life compared to ours in the modern world.

After the sessions, there will be a chance to ask the knowledgeable hunter-gatherers questions about life in the Stone Age and photo opportunities for those wanting to dress up in pre-historic costume.

‘Tunnel Through Time’ Trail

This interactive trail is sure to ignite your inner caveman curiosity as you walk in the footsteps of your ancestors. Test your knowledge as you travel around the attraction and learn fun and informative facts about Stone Age entertainment, shopping, education, health, language and communication. Once you’ve completed all the tasks on the trail, you’ll be rewarded with a limited-edition themed sticker! Open 10am - 4.30pm daily.

Museum Quiz

Explore the Museum and take part in a fun quiz, available 10am - 4.30pm daily.  As you follow the clues around the museum, learn lots of new facts, discover amazing artefacts unearthed in the Cheddar area and find out what life was like in Cheddar Gorge.

What's included in your day ticket?

Your Caveman Curiosity adventure is included in the price of a day ticket, which gives access to six exciting attractions:

  • Explore Gough’s Cave, our spectacular stalactite show cave where Cheddar Man, Britain’s oldest, most-complete human skeleton was unearthed and find out about his amazing DNA discovery.
  • Experience new multimedia experience, ‘Yeo’s Journey’ in Cox’s Cave, that tells the captivating story of how our iconic caves were formed and evolved through the ‘power of water’.
  • Find out more about the local history, wildlife and plants in the Beyond the View cinema show.
  • Visit the Caveman Curiosity event in the Museum of Pre-History.
  • Venture up the 274 steps of Jacob’s Ladder to The Lookout Tower.
  • Take in the views from the Cliff-Top Walk where you will enjoy stunning views of the gorge and Mendip Hills - a landscape that has been millions of years in the making!
