Bristol’s summer event calendar is heating up with two immersive experiences perfect for explorers of all ages.
First up is Space Shanty at M Shed for 6 weeks, an intergalactic voyage like no other, exploring Bristol's involvement with science and space travel. Then there’s Lumosphere at Cabot Circus for 3 weeks only, which brings together the best of art, technology and interactive fun in the city centre.
With the weather being quite unpredictable lately, these two additions to Bristol’s summer scene make exciting ideas for entertaining little ones indoors during the school break.
Here’s everything you need to know about these two brand new experiences...
Space Shanty at M Shed | 19 July – 1 September
Located in the heart of Bristol’s harbourside, this pop-up experience blends history, science, and playful exploration to create a unique and engaging experience for young explorers. Delve into the stories and artefacts of Bristol’s contributions to space exploration, all through hands-on activities and exploratory play.
Bemmie, Bristol’s first spacefaring rat, will take you on a 45-minute immersive experience through time and space. Taking the humble child’s cardboard space rocket as inspiration for the installation, enter a theatrical maze-like space combined with video, lighting effects and clever digital installations. You will come across escape room-like challenges, a chance to fly a rocket, and space to mix your own unique tunes with the interactive music console.
Space Shanty is proudly hosted at M Shed, close to Wapping Wharf, so it offers the perfect base for a day of exploration. After visiting the experience, enjoy harbourside views, independent shops and delicious street food just outside.
Adult tickets are priced at £12, children tickets at £8 and under 3’s go free.

Lumosphere at Cabot Circus | 26 July – 16 August
Situated in the Friary Building in Quakers Friars for 3 weeks only, Lumosphere is a mysterious portal between our world and the wonders of this universe. Created by Bristol-based PYTCH, this multi-sensory journey is a must-visit for families looking to add a touch of magic to their summer plans.
Lumosphere is an immersive 45-minutes walk-through experience where art and technology collide. As you wander through it, you’ll encounter optical illusions, light and sound shows and unique visuals that captivate the senses.
Travel through four distinct, immersive spaces with themes including: perspective, beginnings, journey, connection, discovery, and exploration. Each theme within is crafted to intrigue and inspire, offering a blend of colourful lighting, tactile foliage-filled walls and flow motion technology.
Conveniently located in the heart of the city center, you can make a full day or evening out by exploring the shops and restaurants that Cabot Circus has to offer after your visit.
Adult tickets are priced at £12, children tickets at £8 and under 3’s go free.
