Best actors' watering hole and best pizzas in Bristol. Many years ago most places shut at 10.30 – not much good for actors who didn’t usually finish work till after that. And then there was Renato’s.

Without the legendary Renato Borgnana and his wonderful family – George and Angela continue the tradition - generations of actors would have gone hungry and thirsty.

Kate's Kitchen

Fanny says, ‘Loved working with these fabulous women who cooked up such a storm for our Bristol Food Connections event. Exquisite blue eggs, perfect prawn cocktail; succulent chicken, divine peach melba.

Now they have a new cafe at Arnos Vale – and Johnnie’s on his way as I write. - Update Oct 2018 Kate's Kitchen Cafe have left Arnos Vale Cemetery to concentrate on their event catering business.

Beaufort Arms, Hawkesbury Upton

Lovely friendly pub on the edge of the Cotswolds with lots of great walking nearby.

Great lunches, particularly keen on their delicious home-made Gloucestershire faggots (faggots, Fanny will tell you, probably came over with the Normans and began as a pate).

Bristol Harbour Hotel

Johnnie says, ‘This is where I’ll be taking Fanny for our next anniversary.

Wonderfully stylish but terribly relaxed, blissful cocktails, terrific menu from a great chef and a jolly decent wine list – a perfect night out!”

Souk Kitchen

Wonderful spices and flavours at the best Mediterranean restaurant in Bristol.  The Ghalieh Mahi (Southern Persian fish curry) is pure heaven.

Spoke & Stringer

On the harbour, just off Anchor Road.  Best tapas in Bristol, a real taste of Spain in great surroundings.
