Wapping Wharf is easily one of my new favourite areas to eat and drink. The city seems so much closer to my house now – I can walk there from home in 15 minutes - and distance is everything when you’re carrying a rapidly-growing ten-month-old in a sling. Coffee (and a piece of Persian love cake if they have it) in Better Food Cafe is great because it’s breast-feeding friendly and we can do a bit of shopping there afterwards. Even closer to home is Windmill Hill City Farm. It’s great for animal spotting with my son or meeting up with other parents in the new café.

Watershed is reliably good. Since becoming a mum, leisure time has become a bit of a luxury so when I have the time to eat out, I want to know I’ll enjoy it. I love their interesting vegetarian choices and changing daily specials. Its Sunday Brunch programme of films is great for me too because I’m usually too tired to go out to a film in the evening. I had a really pleasant and relaxing Sunday recently drinking coffee and reading newspapers in the bar then watching Love and Mercy.

On a working day I’ll often go to Friska at lunchtime for a bean burrito. The harbourside one is nearest my office but I sometimes take a lunchtime hike up Park Street to browse the charity shops, so I’ll definitely be trying their new place there when it opens. If I’m extra hungry then only Magic Roll will do. Their wrap with halloumi and hummus and all manner of other goodies in it is a great one, but it’s too messy to eat at my desk without a protective tarpaulin being laid out first, so I’ll usually sit in Brandon Hill park and eat.

When I got married a couple of years ago we had a meal at the Lido afterwards and now it’s where we go to mark our anniversaries. It feels really special and the food is prepared with such care. Their ice creams went down really well with our guests, especially the Pedro Ximenez and raisin. We’re a bit of an ice cream-loving family actually – we always make time for pistachio gelato from Swoon if we’re anywhere near College Green.

I live close to The Victoria Park pub, so never have to go very far for a drink, a beer garden with a great view and some good pub food. But if we’re heading into town then we’d meet friends for a Belgian beer in The Strawberry Thief on Broad Street. Kasteel Rouge is delicious, but so strong that I have to ration myself to just one….or two.
