Make Wild Discoveries at Wild Place Project (10-18 Feb)

This half term, discover what nature has to offer at Wild Place Project. Explore habitat-themed areas of parkland, outsmart the rangers and crack the Ranger Riddles, challenge family and friends to a game of Nature Bingo, try out your skills at the Discovery Den and complete the Orienteering course. Extra family-friendly fun includes the Fun Fort (indoors) and Leap of Faith high adventure course.

Meet Pirates and Mermaids at Bristol Aquarium (10-25 Feb)

Learn more about the creatures that live in the seven seas on a Pirate treasure trail and meet fish-tailed maidens (on Saturdays and Sundays during half term) who will be coming ashore to share photo opportunities and tales from life under the waves.

Become a Zoo Detective at Bristol Zoo Gardens (10-25 Feb)

Become a Zoo Detective and venture to all four corners of the 12-acre zoo to try and solve a special 'Zoodunnit?’ half-term mystery. Use your sleuthing skills to discover clues, narrow down suspects, crack codes and test your senses at the interactive pop-up detective school!

Discover something new at Bristol Museums

M Shed’s old steam train will be ferrying people up and down the Harbourside (10-11 and 17-18 Feb). The Wildlife Photographer of the Year continues at M Shed until 8 April. Dinosaur fans will love the giant Jurassic Pliosaurus at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery (until 14 Feb).

Engage curious minds and make astounding discoveries at We The Curious

Half term activities at We The Curious include an invitation to marvel at all things hot and cold in the Frost Lab, find out where spices come from in the Winter Kitchen, or watch live science show, Fairytale SOS. Fire brain cells further with a Rocketship Adventure, or Winter Stargazing in the UK’s only 3D planetarium. Get on board this half term at Aerospace Bristol

Join Aerospace Bristol this February half term for a week of exploration. Get to grips with the principles of flight through hands-on activities under Concorde, discover the fascinating stories behind some of the exhibits with a special ‘Spotlight’ talk, and step aboard Concorde Alpha Foxtrot - the last Concorde to be built and fly. With lots of activities to keep the whole family entertained, get ready to blast off on a journey through time with Aerospace Bristol.

Step back to Victorian times, Brunel's SS Great Britain (10-18 Feb)

Step into the shoes of a real-life passenger from the SS Great Britain with brand new Boarding Cards. The cards will feature 36 characters from the ship’s history, with fun facts and activities based on the ship’s records and personal diaries from the museum’s collection. There’ll also be interactive maps dotted around the site on which families can follow their character’s voyage through time. The authentic Victorian dockyard will be alive with a rag tag mix of people from the era as costumed characters bring the place to life throughout the holiday.

Also coming this half-term is the Global Stories project, a huge new interactive database charting the journeys of over 30,000 of the SS Great Britain’s inhabitants. Find out if one of your ancestors travelled on board the ship! The database will be accessible both at Brunel’s SS Great Britain and anywhere online from this half-term onwards.

Families who caught the BBC’s animation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s wickedly loveable villain will adore this new trail, the latest of the duo’s books to be brought to trail life… Meet different characters, collect food rubbings and complete fun activities as you journey around the Old Arboretum.  Pick up a special Highway Rat Activity pack (£3) from the Welcome Building and download activity sheets before you arrive.

Explore Westonbirt’s remarkable conifers through a range of crafts and discovery challenges. Learn about different cone shapes, where they come from and the leaf colours that conifers grow.  Make a cone bird feeder and design your own cone creature to take away.

Make magical memories at Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park

Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park is set to be doused in more magic than Cinderella’s pumpkin. Complete three fairytale-themed trails around the park throughout February - seek sparkly shoes on The Unicorn Trail (they might not fit you though!), find and listen to hidden stories on The Fairytale Trail and search high and low for little twinklebells on the Fairy and Pixie house hunt. You can also join Jack for some magic beanstalk planting and during half term and weekends, make littlies’ wishes come true with the chance to meet a real life unicorn, Prince Charming and a Princess. Prince Charming will be teaching children how to draw their own cartoons. All the usual park activities will be running, along with their Lambing Live event!

Lambing Live at Avon Valley Adventure & Wildlife Park (9-18 Feb)

Flock to Avon Valley to see new-born lambs - there are twenty ewes ready to lamb twins and triplets every day in the indoor animal handling barn. The lambing team will be giving talks throughout the day about the lambing process plus lots of super sheep facts. You’ll even have the chance to name them - it's going to be baaaa-rilliant!

Try your hand at welly wanging at Tyntesfield

Keep youngsters entertained outdoors on Tyntesfield's beautiful estate. Burn off excess energy in the gorgeous grounds, have a go at the winter trail and try your hand at welly wanging!

This half term, young visitors to Bristol will be totally spoilt for choice in the theatre stakes.

  • Bristol Hippodrome welcomes global phenomenon, Wicked (31 Jan – 3 March)a re-imagining of the stories and characters from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Audiences can expect technical wizardry, stunning costumes, and show-stopping songs.
  • Enjoy captivating storytelling and exquisite puppetry in Fireside Tales with Granddad at The Wardrobe Theatre (10 Feb – 17 Feb).
  • Tiddler and Other Terrific Tales at Bristol Old Vic sees live music, puppetry and a host of colourful characters from Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's best-loved titles brought together (15 – 18 Feb).
  • Laugh out loud at Hoot Owl Master of Disguise (11 Feb) or prepare yourself for some Horrible Histories (22-23 Feb) at the Redgrave Theatre.
  • Following the critically-acclaimed The Incredible Book Eating Boy, Bootworks present The Many Doors of Frank Feelbad, a show about bereavement for kids at Arnos Vale Cemetery (24 Feb).

Get crafty at the Cathedral (15 Feb)

Explore Bristol Cathedral with trails and tours and get creative with arts and crafts from 10am-12pm on 15 February. Best suited for under 11s.

Drawing School at the RWA

Youngsters (divided into ages 3-5 and 6+) can design and print their own canvas bag to take home, in the style of Sandra Blow at the RWA’s Block Printing Workshop (13 Feb). Older children (9+) can take tips from Bristol-based illustrator Victoria Willmott in a school holiday masterclass (15 Feb -5 April).

Jumping up and down in Dusty's Puddle Jumping Championships (10-18 Feb)

Children will be encouraged to create the biggest, craziest splash possible.  Puddles will be available for essential practice before the daily competition kicks off at WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre's Wellyboot Land. Dusty Duck (designed by Aardman Animations) will also be joining in the fun.

Half term family felt beads workshop at Wells Cathedral (14 Feb)

Nurture your creative side and have a go at making felt beads from carded sheep's fleece – all materials are provided and staff will be on hand to offer help and advice. Diesel locomotives will be running at Avon Valley Railway on 10, 11, 13-15, 17 and 18 February. Travel back in time as you chug along the three miles of track through beautiful scenery.
