Bristol is one of the leading UK cities when it comes to being ‘green’ and sustainable. Bristol was the first UK city to win the European Green Capital award in 2015, due to the successes in a variety of areas such as energy, waste, food and travel. The city has many unique venues and hotels that have a strong focus on being green and working with event planners to organise sustainable events.

Arnos Vale Cemetery

Arnos Vale Cemetery is a national heritage site which is located within 45 acres of green woodland ecosystem. The Cemetery is being managed as a Site of Nature Conservation Interest (SNCI), which means that the landscape management plan is focused on conserving the existing land as well as on encouraging the biodiversity on the site.

As well as being a much-loved community space and hosting its own unique events programme, Arnos Vale offers several choices of event spaces available for private hire. Meetings and events can be combined with educational cemetery tours and benefit from delicious catering provided by Kates Kitchen who are based on site. Arnos Vale is a Green Heritage site and offers numerous environmental and community projects. The revenue generated from conferences and events are put towards helping the social and ecological charitable objectives of the cemetery.

The Bristol

Situated next to Bristol’s picturesque Harbourside, the team at the hotel are dedicated to introducing policies that protect the environment, with all staff having ‘green training’ as part of their induction programme. Four years ago, The Bristol established a ‘Green Team’ to focus on reducing its carbon footprint. New boilers and lifts were installed, and general waste has been reduced from 60% to 37%, with 100% of waste being diverted from landfill.

A company proud of its green credentials the Bristol introduced the ‘Greener Way to Meet’ initiative in 2015. This initiative supports other Green Businesses by giving them a discount when having an event in the hotel. They also offer paperless billing, onsite car charging plugs and locally-sourced food and beverages. The Bristol also recently secured ‘Green Business of the Year’ at the Business Leader Awards 2017, in recognition of their commitment to managing their social, environmental and financial obligations.
