About half an hour’s drive away from Bristol city centre, is the seaside town of Clevedon.

Known as one of the locations for the hit ITV drama Broadchurch, there is lots to do, whether you are visiting with friends or family. With the pebbled beaches, famous walks and great places to eat, Clevedon has plenty to offer for locals and visitors alike.

Clevedon Pier

Clevedon is now famous all over for the country for its quaint, Victorian pier. One Direction fans will know it as the location of their ‘You and I’ music video, or perhaps you might recognise it from the Hollywood film ‘Never Let Me Go’ starring Keira Knightly and Andrew Garfield.

Either way, the beautiful pier is a must-see when you visit Clevedon. Enjoy fish and chips in the Tiffin restaurant and look right over to Wales from the end. Mind the gaps!

For breakfast, 5 The Beach near the scenic pier; a perfect place to sit out and enjoy a fry-up breakfast on a warm, sunny morning. Alternatives for great food and views include Tiffin and Scarlett’s, all within a stone’s throw of the seafront.

If you’d like a little more history, Clevedon’s Curzon Cinema is one of the oldest cinemas in Britain and has been in continuous operation since 1912, never closing its doors to film-goers!

Head to the Curzon for the latest films, fresh popcorn and if you’re lucky, you’ll see the grand organ being played before the film begins. A cosy atmosphere and red velvet seats, it is like a lovely trip back in time.

If you enjoy walking, there are plenty of scenic routes; along the seafront, or around Poet’s Walk, named after famous poets such as Alfred Tennyson and Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

It begins at the Salthouse Fields next to the historic Marine Lake, and takes you past the Sugar Lookout and around the headland with views of Weston-Super-Mare in the distance. If you fancy walking further, you could take the coastal path and walk to Portishead. Be sure to bring snacks and wear your walking boots!

If you have an afternoon free, Hill Road is the perfect place to explore the local shops and restaurants. Murrays of Clevedon is a great place for a Sunday morning breakfast (the avocado on toast is particularly good) and Barista Barber is a popular spot for gents to get a new haircut and enjoy a coffee.

Shops such as Luna and Wilfred & Alice are idea spots to buy unique gifts and jewellery, as well as Midgley Green in Alexandra Road for artisan homewear.

On the first Sunday of each month is the Clevedon Market, where local crafters, makers and food producers set up at different spots around Hill Road. This is a perfect day to visit Clevedon and get a feel for the community – look out for the bunting to help you find your way around.

Time to dine? Clevedon has a fantastic selection of independent restaurants. If you’d like to try Italian food, Scoozi on Hill Road is perfect for pizza and pasta. Just down the road is Junior Poon’s; a favourite of both locals and day-trippers when it comes to Chinese cuisine. For Indian food, Moguls never fails to provide delicious, quality meals with such a friendly atmosphere.

For drinks, pop into the cosy micro-pub, The Fallen Tree, serving real-ales from their own Twisted Oak brewery, along with other local ales. If its cocktails you fancy, The Limehouse is a great place to enjoy a drink with friends. Watch the sun go down whilst dining in The Little Harp pub on the sea front or enjoy a BBQ on the beach.
