The Lido

A swim here with Mrs Guppy (actor Kim Hicks) is usually followed by wonderful Anchovy Toast (Lido’s own bread) and a pot of Earl Grey.  If it’s a morning swim it has to be wood roast kippers.  And now there’s more good  food at their new Thames Lido – love the squid ink rice.

Riverstation

Steak, chips, peppercorn sauce and hopefully a blissful sunset looking across to Redcliffe Parade.  I’ve been coming here since it opened and the food and the view are still favourites.

Al’s Tikka Grill

Al’s was the first restaurant ‘South of the River’ when Ali and Saki opened it around 1992 – I’ve been coming ever since.  Wonderful tandoori chicken and dahls to die for – sometimes with Kate McNab who plays Fanny Cradock in our dinner theatre show.

The Hen & Chicken

Show Of Strength started the theatre here in 1989 and it’s great to see it so brilliantly revamped in 2018.  The Hen makes delicious pizza and there’s time to eat before our new show opens there next Tuesday, 6 November at 8.30pm

Café Create

The café at the Create Centre in Hotwells is perfect for lunch if you’re walking round the docks or doing a spot of research in Bristol Record Office – the menu changes every day and it’s all fresh produce from local Bristol traders.  The dahls are fabulous.

George’s Restaurant

George’s has been on Bedminster’s East Street for 45 years, it’s an institution and a gem – spotlessly clean, friendly and welcoming, great value breakfasts and main meals served till 5pm.
