Described by Adapter and Director (and Artistic Director of company Wise Children) Emma Rice as a ‘happy Lord of the Flies’, Malory Towers is a wonderful celebration of friendship and forgiveness, with a nostalgic heart set in Enid Blyton’s fictional school in the immediate post-WW2 period.

As the first formers gather at Paddington Station for their journey to the new school year at Malory Towers, excitement and nervousness is in the air.  What opportunities will Malory Towers bring, will they become firm friends and will they be able to put on the end of year play?

Performed in the Passenger Shed, right next door to Bristol Temple Meads railway station gives the performance an additional layer of specialness as the cavernous space and imaginative, clever set becomes home to the Cornish coastal boarding school (with a pretty great bar and space to chat before taking your seats).

It’s great for fans of the books who won’t be disappointed as characters are brought to life by a ridiculously talented cast, but equally those who have never read Blyton’s books will be caught up in the endearing, warm-hearted tale of hockey sticks and midnight feasts, peppered with the drama of the bully-with-a-back-story and book-ended with a modern context.

It is a truly wonderful and uplifting piece of theatre, packed with original songs and 50s classics that truly celebrate the original. Exceptional performances from the cast and superb music make it a must-see in Bristol this summer.  Plus, it has the best theatre programme you’ll find anywhere.

Malory Towers by Wise Children at The Passenger Shed runs until Sunday 18 August. Tickets are still available to some performances and can be purchased here
