Before he takes to the skies for next week’s Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, Tony from Bristol Balloons found time to share his #FoodFriday picks with us.

The Jetty Restaurant

I had always wondered about the name of this restaurant as it's nowhere near the water, but recently discovered that The Jetty is actually part of a successful chain. The Bristol branch is found at the Harbour Hotel. They do fresh seafood, served simply with local produce - what could be better.

Café at The New Room

Or as I call it ‘The Shopper’s Respite’, as it provides a break from the bustle of Broadmead. Pop in here for lots of fresh treats, canapés or even mocktails to rejuvenate the jaded shopper’s palate.

Pickle Café at Underfall Yard

Pickle Café was a surprise discovery I made when strolling around the docks, which has become a firm favourite when showing family and friends the city. Go and search it out if you fancy some delicious sandwiches, coffee and home baked treats.


We’re lucky to have three Pieministers in Bristol – Broad Quay, Stokes Croft and St Nicks Market. I recommend trying the Bottomless Brunch or my go-to, the Mothership. Look out for their vegan and gluten-free dishes as an alternative to their already inspirational food too.

The Olive Shed

This is one of my favourites for a quick and flavourful meal. I normally order bread and olives for lunch, and love the Braised Ox Cheek - something you don’t see on many menus - with a glass of sherry (when not ballooning, of course).

When he’s not ‘flying high’ with all things ballooning, he’s outdoors engaged on conservation projects and long haul travel - Kenya, Falklands and more recently New Zealand.
